It’s been a while since I was able to update my portfolio with a new cover illustration. I’m happy to post my latest effort today dedicated to Batman. This particular design took many weeks to develop. For a long time I was unhappy with my painting technique and I would let it sit for days. That creative block and a pile of client work kept me from completing it. Yesterday I decided I was going to do whatever it took to power through it and get it finished. What followed was one of those “Happy Accidents” where while fooling around with the layers in Photoshop I reversed layers and came up with an unexpected color combination. With that simple mistake I found my solution and I hope to have stumbled on a technique that will serve me for the next few illustrations. What’s the moral of the story? Power through a creative problem even when you don’t want to. Happy accidents and creative solutions can’t happen unless you’re actually working– thinking and hoping won’t cut it.
